Diaper Collective of Acadiana

Family Support - Community Engagement - Disaster Relief

The Diaper Collective of Acadiana (DCA) is an affiliate of the IFR. Supported by the Matthew 25 Initiative, Walmart, and other private donors, the DCA strengthens the resilience of communities in the Acadiana region of Louisiana by providing diapers and other hygiene items to families in need. We partner with local and national non-profits, government agencies, businesses, faith communities, and individuals to support this very real need. Over 100,000 diapers have been provided to mothers and families in need so far!

Spiritual Strength: Religious Resources amidst War

At the IFR, we have a special concern to understand veterans’ experiences of wartime stress and trauma, as well as to investigate how religion may provide tools for coping with those experiences. In November 2019, we submitted a proposal to the National Endowment for the Humanities, as part of their “Dialogues on the Experience of War,” to support our development of discussion group curriculum utilizing sacred texts and spiritual memoirs to show a way forward for combat veterans who are struggling to make sense of their time in service.

With this support, we hope to:

1) Develop discussion materials that can be used by facilitators across the country to attend to the needs of their local veterans, and

2) Gather feedback from discussion leaders and attendees to help us refine our approach to faith and resilience in future training materials and publications.
